2012 USVI GREEN PARTY SENATE CANDIDATE

USVI GREEN PARTY SENATE CANDIDATE

ALAN FRIEDMAN #17

MY PLATFORM IS SIMPLE:

REDUCE THE WASTE WE GENERATE AND STORE IN OUR BEAUTIFUL TERRITORY AND REDUCE THE WASTEFUL HABITS WE’VE COME TO EXPECT FROM OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS.

I LEAD BY EXAMPLE.  I’VE PLEDGED TO DONATE 20% OF MY SALARY TO THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER, A PRIVATE NON-PROFIT AGENCY WHICH PROVIDES COUNSELING AND SHELTER FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT.  I’VE ALSO PLEDGED TO NOT ACCEPT A GOVERNMENT ISSUED VEHICLE, GAS COUPONS AND OTHER WASTEFUL PERKS PROVIDED TO THE OFFICE.  I ASK OTHER SENATE HOPEFULS TO JOIN ME IN THIS PLEDGE.

MY PLATFORM PRIORITIZES A REDUCTION TO OUR OUTLANDISH POWER BILLS.  HIGH ENERGY COSTS HAVE HURT ALL VIRGIN ISLANDERS AND CONTINUE TO COME FROM A SINGLE, HIGH PRICED, HIGH POLLUTION SOURCE.  I BELIEVE THAT CLEANER, MORE COST EFFECTIVE & MORE RELIABLE POWER CAN BE GENERATED THROUGH GREEN TECHNOLOGIES AND LIQUID NATURAL GAS.  FINANCING THE ACQUISITION OF NEW GENERATORS, “DUAL USE” GENERATORS ALONG WITH STORAGE TANKS FOR NATURAL GAS IS A MUST.  WE NEED TO ALLOW SMALLER POWER PRODUCERS EASIER ENTRY INTO THE MARKET.

AND FINALLY, TO USHER IN A GENUINE OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES TO THRIVE THROUGH EVEN-HANDED TAX ENFORCEMENT INSTEAD OF INCREASE, REVAMPING THE LICENSING PROCESS TO MAKE IT EASIER AND CHEAPER TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN YOUR ENTERPRISE, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.

WE ALL HAVE A GRASP OF THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OUR CURRENT ELECTED OFFICIALS HAVE SECURED FOR OUR FUTURE.  I POLITELY REQUEST THAT YOU EDUCATE YOURSELF REGARDING VIABLE ALTERNATIVES FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL HOME IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY.  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I ASK THAT YOU GET TO KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES AND VOTE THIS NOVEMBER 6TH.

I’M ALAN FRIEDMAN, NUMBER 17 ON YOUR BALLOT, THIS NOVEMBER 6 EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO’LL REPRESENT YOUR INTERESTS, NOT THEIR OWN.

AS THE GREEN PARTY NOMINEE MY FOCUS WILL BE ON REDUCING AND MANAGING WASTE.  NOT ONLY THE WASTE THAT HURTS OUR ENVIRONMENT AND AFFECT OUR HEALTH BUT ALSO GOVERNMENT WASTE.

WE ALL AGREE THAT THE SENATE IS TOO TOP-HEAVY WITH 15 SEATS WHEN 7 WOULD SUFFICE; OUR POWER BILLS ARE TOO HIGH AS WAPA’S EXECUTIVES CONTINUE TO SHRUG OFF ACCUSATIONS OF INEFFICIENCY AND PLEAS FOR RELIEF.  LOCAL BUSINESSES ARE REQUIRED TO BE LEAN AND MINDFUL OF THEIR BOTTOM LINE WHILE OUR GOVERNMENT IS HELD TO A MUCH LOWER STANDARD.

THE VIRGIN ISLANDS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE SUSTAINABLE.  LET’S MEET THAT POTENTIAL TOGETHER BY VOTING DIFFERENTLY, BY VOTING GREEN.
